Independent BMW service

The light came back? Clearing the code is not fixing the fault.

Independent BMW specialist in San Jose. I trace it to the actual wire, connector or ground and check it against the factory diagram for your chassis before I quote anything.

A broken conductor between the connector and the splice. The module is healthy, and replacing it would have changed nothing.

The protection opened for a reason. Replacing the fuse without finding the reason means doing this again next week.

A ground carrying voltage it should not. Current is returning through something that is not the ground strap.

The market

0

Bay Area BMW specialists with a page about wiring.

Of the ten BMW and European specialists in and around the Bay Area whose sites I checked, not one runs a page for wiring or electrical diagnosis. Two mention electrical at all: one names factory diagnostic training, the other buries "electrical components" inside a longer list.

There are only two ways to fix an electrical fault.

Replace and hope

  • A part number appears on the quote before anyone has measured anything.
  • The light goes out. The fault does not.
  • You pay again in two weeks, for the next guess.

Measure, then fix

  • Voltage under load, at the pin, against the factory diagram for your chassis.
  • You see the failed connector in a photograph before anything is quoted.
  • If nothing repeatable turns up, you hear that instead of a parts bill.

Electrical, diagnostics and software. Nothing else.

Brakes, suspension and scheduled maintenance belong at a general shop. I will say so when that is what your car needs.

01

Diagnostics & Electrical Troubleshooting

Complex, intermittent and non-standard faults in electronic systems and the digital data buses (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, MOST), and in the wiring itself: parasitic drains, water damage, chewed or brittle harnesses.

02

ECU Programming & Coding

Programming, resetting, pairing and recoding control units of any complexity: powertrain, transmission, comfort modules, body electronics and multimedia.

03

Control Unit Replacement & Adaptation

Full-cycle adaptation and synchronisation of both new and used control units, component protection removal, and configuration to the specific car.

04

Retrofits & Feature Activation

Retrofitting genuine options and factory equipment, and activating hidden features, navigation and multimedia systems.

05

Shop & Fleet Support

B2B support for independent shops, specialist services and body shops that need a BMW electrical and software expert, on site or on a subcontract basis. Most often module programming after a collision repair or a major rebuild.

The visit

What happens during a diagnostic visit

  1. 01

You tell me what it does

Including anything intermittent, plus any codes or quotes you already have.

  2. 02

I test the circuit, not just the module

Wiring, connectors, grounds, voltage under load, checked against BMW factory diagrams for your chassis.

  3. 03

I show you what I found

The specific point of failure, with a photo and the reading, before I quote anything.

  4. 04

    You decide

If it is electrical, I fix it here and you approve the work first. If it turns out to be mechanical, I say so plainly.

One person

Who does the diagnosis

Nobody else in this market leads with wiring and electrical diagnosis. That is the whole of what I do: electrical, diagnostics and BMW software, at dealer level, instead of general mechanical work.

That is the whole premise. One person who traces circuits for a living does the diagnostic work, instead of it going to whoever is free on the floor.

Already have a quote from someone else?

Send a photo of it with any code or module reading you have, and I will tell you whether it holds up. No appointment, no visit. A wiring specialist reading the quote, not a generalist.

Straight answers

Questions people actually ask

You just opened. Why should I trust you with my car?

Fair question, and no track record answers it yet. What you can check instead is the diagnostic itself: I show you the fault on the schematic, with a measured reading, before you approve anything. Judge that visit.

What if the problem is not electrical?

Then I say so. The diagnostic starts from your actual symptom, not from an assumption that everything is a wiring fault.

I already have a quote from the dealer. Can you just look at it?

Yes. Send it over with the code or module reading behind it. Often the fastest diagnostic is confirming or ruling out what someone else already suspected.

Do you only take electrical work?

Yes, and deliberately so. Electrical, diagnostics, ECU programming and coding are the whole of it. Brakes, suspension and scheduled maintenance belong at a general shop, and I will say so when that is what the car needs.

Before anything gets fixed

Before anything gets fixed, you see it

You get more than my word. You get a photo of the actual fault, the connector, the reading and the point on the wiring diagram it traces to, before anything is quoted. Nothing gets repaired until you have seen it and approved the work.
